How to Stay Motivated in Tough Times
There are days when getting out of bed feels like lifting a mountain. Days when the to-do list looks blurry, the future feels uncertain, and motivation seems like something only other people have.
If you’ve ever felt this way—you’re not alone. I’ve been there too, many times.
Tough times don’t send invitations. They simply arrive, unplanned and unwanted. And when they do, motivation doesn’t magically appear to save us. Often, we have to create it, even when we feel empty.
This blog isn’t a list of perfect tips—it’s a small piece of my own experience, combined with what genuinely helped me rebuild myself on difficult days.
1. Accept That It’s Okay to Feel Low
For the longest time, I believed that staying motivated meant being strong all the time.
But the truth?
Some days, strength means simply allowing yourself to feel what you feel.
I had moments where I pretended everything was fine—even to myself. But healing began only when I stopped running from my emotions.
Let yourself pause. Cry if you need to. Take a break. You’re not weak—you’re human.
2. Start With One Small Step, Even If It Feels Silly
During one of the lowest phases of my life, I remember struggling to even start my day. So I told myself:
“Just one small step. That’s all you need to do today.”
Sometimes that step was:
Drinking water
Tidying my desk
Writing one sentence
Going for a 5-minute walk
3. Surround Yourself With the Right People
You don’t always need big advice. Sometimes you just need someone who listens without judgment.
There were days when a simple “I’m here for you” from a friend felt like a lifeline.
If you have people who make you feel safe—hold onto them.4. Reconnect With Why You Started
When life gets tough, it’s easy to forget your “why.”
Why you began something.
Why it mattered.
Why you believed in it.During my tough days, I often reread old journal pages or messages that reminded me of my purpose.
Slowly, my “why” started shining through the heavy fog.5. Don’t Compare Your Journey With Others
Comparison is one of the biggest motivation killers.
I’ve wasted so many days thinking:
“Everyone is ahead of me.”
“Why am I the only one struggling?”
“Maybe I’m not capable enough.”But here’s something I remind myself often:
We only see people’s highlight reels, not their battles.6. Take Care of Your Body, Even When You Don’t Feel Like It
Motivation lives inside the body as much as in the mind.
I realized that on days when I slept poorly, skipped meals, or stayed glued to screens, everything felt harder.
But simple habits—like drinking more water, walking, sleeping on time—made an unexpected difference. You don’t need a full routine.
Just kindness toward your body.7. Believe That Tough Times Don’t Last Forever
I know this sounds cliché, but it’s true: nothing stays the same.
If you look back, you’ll notice you’ve survived difficult things before.
You’ve rebuilt yourself before.
You’ve grown through storms you once thought would drown you. This moment you’re in?
It’s temporary too.A Gentle Reminder Before You Leave
If you’re going through a difficult time right now, I just want to tell you this:
You are doing better than you think.
Your effort counts, even if no one sees it.
You matter.
And you are allowed to take life one small step at a time.Motivation isn’t about being unstoppable.
It’s about continuing—slowly, quietly, gently—on the days when everything feels heavy.I’m rooting for you.
Always.
